Yesterday the Oversight and Government Reform Committee had another hearing on Benghazi. During this hearing, committee members were scheduled to hear testimony from Patricia Smith and Charles Woods. Ms. Smith is the mother of Sean Smith, an information management officer killed in the 9/11 Benghazi attack. Charles Woods is the father of Navy Seal Tyrone Woods, who was also killed.
We’ve witnessed a lot of disgraceful actions from members of Congress over the years, but what happened yesterday is undoubtedly the most despicable thing ANY member of Congress has done.
Prior to the testimony of these parents who lost their children in an attack on our US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, 15 of the 17 Democratic members of the committee got up and walked out. These parents still have numerous unanswered questions regarding the murder of their sons. These parents will never get closure until their questions are answered. What these elected officials did is indefensible. Not only are they elected to represent the voice of the people, but they were appointed to this committee for the sole purpose of holding the government accountable to the people. This is the mission statement from the OGRC’s website:
We exist to secure two fundamental principles. First, Americans have a right to know that the money Washington takes from them is well spent. And second, Americans deserve an efficient, effective government that works for them. Our duty on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee is to protect these rights.
Our solemn responsibility is to hold government accountable to taxpayers, because taxpayers have a right to know what they get from their government. We will work tirelessly, in partnership with citizen-watchdogs, to deliver the facts to the American people and bring genuine reform to the federal bureaucracy.
This is the mission of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
The disgraceful manner in which these Democrats disrespected these parents MUST be addressed. We are a family of patriots who care deeply for our nation. These parents deserve to know what happened. They are the parents of children who gave their lives protecting our freedoms. Their children are America’s finest patriots. For those of us who have never donned the uniform of our nation’s Armed Services it is our duty to ensure that those who did did not do so in vain.
Please take a few moments out of your day to let those 15 cowards know how WE THE PEOPLE feel about their single most disgusting act as members of Congress. They can all be reached at the following:
Danny K. Davis: D-IL-7 (202) 225-5006
Matt Cartwright: D-PA-17 (202) 225-5546
Tammy Duckworth: D-IL-8 (202) 225-3711
William Lacy Clay: D-MO-1 (202) 225-2406
If there is anything we have found out in recent months it is that our voice is loudest when we scream in unison.
As Rep. Mark Salmon (R-AZ) put it in regards to the vote to defund Obamacare care today in the house, “The great tsunami, as the Senator called it (referring to Ted Cruz), or the tidal wave of phone calls, coming in to every congressional office, every Senate office, demanding that their voices be heard….”
Don’t think for a second that our voices are not being heard. Why do you think the IRS targeted the Tea Party? Why do you think Facebook continually silences conservative pages?
The only voice that is not heard is the voice that remains silent.
